Abstract

In normal healthy individuals, the presence of circadian rhythms of systolic and diastolic blood pressure and pulse are well established. Circadian rhythms are influencd by aging. The purpose of this study was to investigate rhythms of blood pressure and pulse in elders.
Data were collected from 40 elders in a respect?for?age house. The ages of the subjects were 70 years and over. The data were collected from March 10th to 12th, 1997.
The data were analyzed by percentage, mean, t?test using SAS program.
The results were as follows :
1. Statistical differences of systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure on the morning and afternoon had been related significantly. (p<0.05)
2. Statistical differences of pulse on the morning and afternoon had not been related significantly.
3. Statistical differences of the blood pressure and pulse on age and sex had not been related significantly.
Thus, the understanding of elderly patients¢¥s circadian rhythems will be very helpful to nursing intervention for elder people.
